"HAND IN HAND, TOGETHER WE CAN...."
Objective:
The Carolinas Region Service Project "Hand in Hand, Together We Can," is an opportunity for each chapter to help disaster victims. The project is very broad and is meant to address a wide range of issues and solutions, whether it is immediate community, state, region, country, or international disaster relief. This is an opportunity to be flexible and creative. Although there are many organizations that are readily in place, your efforts do not have to be limited to fundraising or monetary donations.
Collaborating Ideas:
- The Salvation Army
- The American Red Cross
- UNICEF
- Save the Children
- The United Way
- Food Banks
- Restocking libraries with book drives and donations
- Participate in a community cleanup
- Host a school supply drive, clothing drive, or food drive
We look forward to seeing the many faceted ways that we; as Phi Theta Kappans, address the needs of disaster struck communities at home and abroad.
We believe the possibilities for this service project are endless and that it directly relates to the Honors in Action theme of "The Democratization of Information." As information about natural and man-made disasters roll across our television screens and computer monitors, we are compelled to action, as part of a global community. This is the power and promise of information, when confronting perilous circumstances. Good Luck Carolinas Region, and remember, hand in hand together we can make a difference.
Below are links in both Word and PDF format to the Service Project information and reporting forms. To receive a Carolinas Region Service Project award at the 2012 Carolinas Regional Convention, your chapter should fill out the reporting form and return it to the Regional Coordinator no later than February 1, 2012. Information on how and where to send the form is available on the reporting form.
