Carolinas Region
Fall Fellowship Family Campout
Come join us
for another fun filled, laid back Carolinas Region Fall Fellowship
Family Campout at Camp McCall in Bostic, North Carolina over the weekend
of October 8-10, 2010. Camp McCall is a 200 acre camp located in the
foothills of North Carolina. The camp features two-twenty eight bunk
lodges with bathroom and kitchen facilities, plenty of space for tent
campers, a covered outdoor pavilion, campfire circles, a playground,
volleyball net, horseshoe pit, hiking trails, a two acre lake, a
beautiful waterfall and stream, and for those who just want to relax
there are rocking chairs on the porches of the lodges. This campout is
a family event and we welcome everyone to invite their families to
participate. The registration fees for the fellowship weekend are
$10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child with a maximum cost of $25.00 per
family. The registration fees include camp site and/or lodging in
bunkhouses; dinner on Friday evening; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on
Saturday; breakfast on Sunday; and fireside snacks on Friday and
Saturday nights (weather permitting). Registration forms and fees are
due in the regional coordinators office by September 24, 2010. This
weekend allows everyone lots of time for fun activities and
fellowshipping. On Saturday evening we will have our traditional
evening festivities including costume contests for both adults and
children (costumes pertaining to the Phi Theta Kappa International
Honors Topic: “The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and
Promise” and the Carolinas Regional Service Program “Keeping the
Carolinas Green Through eCycling”), a fall festival with games and
activities, trick or treating for the children (we’re asking everyone to
bring candy for this activity), and an evening campfire. We encourage
anyone that plays the guitar or another instrument that can be played
around the campfire to bring your musical instrument for Friday and
Saturday’s campfires. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with
breakfast from 8:00-9:00am followed by camp breakdown. Below are links
to the registration form which includes an additional form to let us
know who will be attending from your chapter and if they are bringing
their own tents or need a bunk in one of the lodges. The bunks will
be reserved on a first registered first served basis. The bunks are
your basic camp bunk beds with a pad so everyone will need to bring
their own sleeping bags, pillows, etc. Remember also to bring warm
clothes (just in case – remember it is October in the mountains),
flashlights, toiletries, sunscreen, towels, camp or folding chairs, etc.
This weekend is a wonderful time for all of us to enjoy nature and the
fellowship of everyone in the Carolinas Region. Additional information
including directions to the camp will be sent out in the future and
posted on the website. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at
the fellowship weekend in October.

Fellowship Host Chapters Needed
For our
Carolinas Region Fall Fellowship Family Campout, many chapters volunteer
to help host this event as we have many opportunities for you to be
involved. Listed below you will see the types of help we need for this
event. We have some chapters lined up already for some of these items
but can always use additional help. As for the meals needed, the host
chapters will be responsible for planning the menu, purchasing the
ingredients, preparing the meals, and clean-up after the meal they
volunteer for but the region will reimburse the chapter for the
ingredients purchased (must have sales receipts as region can only
reimburse chapters with receipt from store). We usually average
between 60-80 people including children at this fellowship event to give
you an idea of how many to plan for and as soon as the registration
period ends we can give the hosting chapters a more accurate number.
The camp includes a large kitchen in the main lodge with refrigerators
and large stove with oven for preparing meals. Also, if two or more
chapters would like to work together to prepare a meal this is a great
way to work with another chapter or a sister chapter. If you are
interested in helping in one or more of these areas please contact John
Sharpe at
john.sharpe@hgtc.edu to let us know The remaining meals will
be assigned to host chapters on a first come, first serve basis so if
you would like to prepare a specific meal contact me ASAP to reserve
that meal.

Action, goal setting, planning comprehensive programs, and much more.
In addition, there will be ample opportunity for fellowship throughout
the conference.
All advisors, officers, and members who perform leadership roles or
would like to be officers are urged to attend. It will give you a
glimpse of the larger picture of Phi Theta Kappa, and it is a dynamic
opportunity for you to develop your leadership skills while meeting your
fellow members and making new friends.
Conference registrations with fees of $75.00 per person are due by
November 5, 2010 in the regional coordinators office – no late

and provide you with the motivation, knowledge, and excitement to take
back to your chapters.
A note for those chapters who have
set your chapter goals at
Level Four
or higher
in the Five-Star
Chapter Development Plan
you must
have at least one chapter representative attend at least one
official regional event during the calendar year. The official regional
events for the Carolinas Region are (1) Carolinas Regional Convention –
March 2010, (2) Carolinas Region Honors Institute/Honors in Action at
Louisburg College – July 2010, and (3) Carolinas Region Leadership
Conference – November 2010 in Charleston. Attending the Carolinas
Region Leadership Conference fulfills this requirement at the Four-Star
level. Also, for those chapters that received scholarships at the 2010
Carolinas Regional Convention and have not already used them, the
scholarships can be applied to the registration fees for this Regional
Leadership Conference – e-mails were sent to the chapters that have
scholarship monies available including their chapters balance. This
event is the last chance to use the scholarships and any remaining
balances will revert back to the regions treasury.
For those of you planning travel
times for Friday arrival and Sunday departure, registration will begin
on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm and run until 9:00 pm with the first
sessions beginning at 6:30 pm and on Sunday we will adjourn at

Phi Theta Kappa
Five Star Chapter Development Plan
Mission Statement
This plan,
which reflects the scholarly ideals of Phi Theta Kappa,
serves as a
blueprint for developing a
strong chapter and for earning
local, regional, and international recognition. In this
plan, chapters do not compete against one another.
Participation
encourages excellence and recognizes progress in the
attainment of goals set by the chapter.
Using the Five
Star Chapter Development Plan as a guide to success,
chapters can enhance their working relationship with the
college administration by becoming active on the
campus and in the community. On a personal
level, involvement in the program will educate chapter
members in the importance of deadlines and
organizational skills.
The strength of
Phi Theta Kappa is determined by the achievements of
chapters on the local level. Recognition for these
achievements provides reinforcement and encourages a
recommitment to chapter goals.
