The Democratization of Education: What is the relationship between information and education?

Children deprived of words become school dropouts; dropouts deprived of hope behave delinquently. The skills and dispositions needed for independent and socially responsible use of information must be learned, and hopefully our schools can be places where these skills are practiced and mastered.

~Peter S. Jennison

Desire to improve our world via the next generation, our children, by educating them and integrating technology with children’s literacy.

 ~ Anil Hemrajani

The Annie E. Casey Foundation recently released a report, “Warning: Why Reading by the End of Third Grade Matters”, linking early literacy to graduation rates, and future economic success. A child’s inability to read at the end of third grade, becomes a child struggling through school, becomes a teen drop-out which in turn closes many doors for positive opportunities, and welcomes unemployment, teen pregnancy, welfare, crime, and debt, all of which are problems in America

Carolinas Region - What can we do to help improve literacy BEFORE children are left behind? The answer is easier than you think:

1.     Volunteer to tutor at your local elementary school

2.     Collect and donate school supplies to a Title 1 elementary school

3.     Collect and donate children’s age-appropriate books

4.     Become a “Class Mom or Dad” at your child’s school

5.     Join the PTA/PTSA

6.     Run for School Council

7.     Write your local Congressperson

8.     Lobby Legislature
