The Department of Justice states, "The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure."

Carolinas Region- What Can We Do to Help Alleviate the Problem of Illiteracy BEFORE Children Fall Into The Hands of the Criminal Justice System? The Answer is Easier Than You Think:

1.      Volunteer to tutor at your local elementary school

2.  Collect and donate school supplies to a Title 1 elementary school

3.  Collect and donate children’s age-appropriate books

4.  Become a “Class Mom or Dad” at your child’s school

5.  Join the PTA/PTSA

6.  Run for School Council

7.  Write your local Congressmen

8.  Lobby Legislature
