Carolinas Region Honors in Action Project
2011 Carolinas Region Honors in Action Project
The Democratization of Language and Communication:
How do language and communication shape information and vice versa?
The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it.
~Edward R. Murrow~
We know that language and communication can be very diverse. How can we find ways to reduce language barriers and bridge the gap in communication?
- Conduct workshops on the dangers and responsibilities associated with texting and tweeting.
- Create a database for textspeak and translations for new text message users.
- Contact Businesses on the hiring rate of bilingual applicants.
- Learn a second language.
- Create blogs for English as second language speakers (ESL) with links to translation resources.
- Tutor ESL students in grammar, reading, and writing.
